Apply your specialist obstetrics and gynaecology skills in a thriving island community.
A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. It’s now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access. The 42-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
You will manage the island’s obstetrics and gynaecology services with other Medical Officers and Midwives, providing primary care especially in areas such as family planning and genitourinary medicine. You will also undertake clinical audits and be a member of the general on-call rota
Your obstetric work will encompass emergency and elective Caesarean Sections, hysterectomies and after-hours service. Gynaecological responsibilities will include colposcopies, LLETZ and endometrial ablations. More complex gynaecological surgery would be dependent upon your skills and experience and availability of operative equipment. You will play an active part in health promotion and preventative care programmes.
Holding full GMC registration or equivalent and having good standing with that body, you should also be MRCOG or equivalent qualified. Proficient in obstetric/gynaecological ultrasonography, you must have experience of endometrial ablation and insertion of tension-free vaginal tape.
