The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is at the forefront of developing an exciting new NHS healthcare proposition, providing innovative integrated services, investing in its workforce and implementing the next generation of emergency care design. The organisation is ambitious and is reaching new heights in terms of the care it provides for its patients.

As an integrated Trust, our community transformation vision is to deliver a seven day service that brings care for our patients closer to their homes which will optimise our patients’ experience. These are exciting developments for Rotherham and will enable delivery of care that is efficient and responsive to patient need.

Rotherham Hospital is our main site (Rotherham Hospital). The modern site provides a range of hospital based Medical, Surgical, Paediatric and Obstetric & Gynaecological services.

Rotherham is an up and coming town, which has transformed over the last two decades to play a major role in the regeneration in South Yorkshire. The Borough has a proud industrial heritage and is establishing a growing modern economy. More than half of the Borough is rural, although most of the 254,000 population live in urban areas. Ethnic minority groups make up 7.5% of the population and 22% are children and young people under the age of 18 years.

Rotherham has excellent transport links to the rest of the country and is served by the M1 and M18 motorways. London is less than 2 hours away by train and 4 international airports are within 1-hour travelling time.

We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic Paediatrician who has well-rounded training in acute Paediatrics to join an existing team of 9 Consultants working in Children and Young People’s Services (C&YPS); These are replacement posts. Acute work is organised around ward-based weeks (1:7). There is no resident on call element to the post.

The successful candidate will be integral to maintaining the quality and extent of the services provided by C&YPS, and to enable delivery of the Clinical Service Unit’s strategic objectives. There will be an opportunity to develop a research interest in this post and enhance links with the regional research network.

Paediatric trainees from the Health Education Yorkshire & Humber (HEE) and the Rotherham GP Training Scheme rotate regularly into the C&YPS Clinical Service Unit, and places are facilitated for Medical Students. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of Medical Students and Junior Doctors.

The final job plan will be discussed and may be modified in discussion with the Director of Clinical Services. There may be additional duties, and roles, which may need to be covered by negotiation and discussion with the Director of clinical services and Consultant colleagues.
