An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Congenital Cardiac Surgeon to lead the next phase of an ambitious growth plan at the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre in Leicester (EMCHC).

Based at Glenfield Hospital and part of the University Hospitals of Leicester, the EMCHC is the only Level 1 CHD centre for the East Midlands and home to the largest ECMO centre in the UK. Awarded ‘outstanding ‘for outcomes in its recent CQC assessment, and with a 100% friends and family rating EMCHC is a much loved centre of excellence for congenital heart disease services.

The service is currently part of a national review of CHD services by NHS England which will conclude on the 30th November. Surgical numbers are a key requirement of the CHD standards and based on the growth plan submitted to NHS England, along with the support of the Network hospitals it is fully expected that the service will meet these surgical numbers within expected timescales and will continue to be commissioned.

This key individual will be joining at a crucial time and will be pivotal in driving the growth and surgical performance, continuing to develop our surgical team, and helping to shape and develop the service as it moves from Glenfield to new facilities within the Children’s Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in July 2019.

We are looking for a strong leader, who will join this high performing team to help drive us to the next stage of our journey and celebrate our future success.

Applicants need to be GMC registered and be able to provide evidence of more than 5 years of clinical experience in Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

We are committed to delivering equality of opportunity for all of our service users, and for our staff. Our aim is to create a workplace in which discrimination is outlawed, and staff and service users are equally valued and supported.

“Preference will be given in the first instance to existing NHS employees within the East Midlands healthcare community who are ‘at risk’ of redundancy. Such employees within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust will be considered first.”
