An opportunity has arisen for Nephrology Consultant & General Medicine to join the Medical team within the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Health & Social Care. The post is based at Noble’s Hospital which is a modern, bright hospital serving the acute healthcare needs of the Isle of Man.

We are seeking to appoint a full time (10 Programmed Activities) substantive nephrology consultant. This is a new post designed to meet the increasing demand for specialist nephrology services within our island.

The post holder will lead the on-island renal services while supporting the Medical Division in delivery of renal services on the island. The candidate should be able to support General Internal Medicine (GIM) and share the workload with other specialty colleagues in the division in terms of GIM on calls, inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. The role requires strong liaison with our transplant service providers in the UK and close working with the community renal support team. The successful candidate will participate in a 1:8 consultant rota.

About the Hospital 

Noble’s Hospital is a District General Hospital opened in 2003, situated on the outskirts of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, and equipped to the very latest standards. There is a total complement of 290 beds including a well-appointed Private Patient Unit. There is a cottage hospital, in Ramsey in the north of the Island, where some Consultant clinical sessions are held. A Combined Education and Training Centre are situated in the grounds of Noble’s Hospital. There is a library with a qualified medical librarian and secretarial staff. Frequent clinical meetings are held throughout the year covering a wide variety of subjects.

The successful candidate is expected to show enthusiasm and skill in teaching, training and Quality Improvement activities and support junior medical and nursing staff as well as GPs on the island.

The unique location, geography and constitution of the Isle of Man means that the Department provides a much wider range of services than would be expected in a comparative health authority or Social Services in the United Kingdom.
