Reflecting a free and easy lifestyle, Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate where you can immerse yourself in the rich South Australian arts and culture scene, stroll along the spacious boulevards, or indulge and relax in one of the many fine cafes and restaurants. With sprawling picturesque coastlines and some of Australia’s most awarded wine regions within reach, South Australia is an ideal setting to further your career.

An exciting opportunity is presented for an individual with a genuine interest in Geriatric Medicine who wants to undertake short term training in this specialty. This position is based at one of South Australia's leading acute referral, teaching, and research centres, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Central Adelaide Local Health Network, home also to the Centre of Research Excellence in Frailty and Healthy Ageing. The Aged & Extended Care Services is a Professorial Geriatric Medicine Unit of the University of Adelaide.

A multi-faceted role where you will gain a diverse range of experience, you will be responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to current department in consultation with the responsible Registrars, Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. Able to function effectively within a fast paced environment, you will maintain a high standard of patient care for inpatients and outpatients, and provide an effective and accurate clinical handover of patient care at the change of daily shifts and at the change of a clinical attachment. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to continuous quality improvement activities and education activities, participating in the department's CME, research and teaching program. Rotations in inpatient, orthogeriatrics, liaison, psychogeriatrics, rural and community geriatrics are available.

These positions are most suited for those currently in specialist geriatric medicine training who are within two years of completing or those who have qualified in geriatric medicine who are looking for further experience in aspects of training not previously available to them. A team player who can operate effectively as part of a team or individually, you will demonstrate competency in a range of routine and common procedural ward-based skills. You will possess high level skills in negotiation and communication, exhibiting the ability to display genuine empathy for patients and their relatives and family. Able to work under pressure without compromising patient care, you will have proven skills in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level.

The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working including part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
