Applications are invited for a 6 PA Locum Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) post based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Applications will also be considered from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to be appointed to a newly created post with an aim of further developing an overarching antimicrobial stewardship programme within GOSH. Dedicated time will be allocated for this, alongside integration into the existing paediatric infectious disease clinical service.
The department deals with over 3000 patient episodes per year. Referrals to the department are received from North Central and North East London as well as Southern England.
The inpatient ward (Robin Ward) is shared with immunology and BMT and includes Hepa-filtered, air flow controlled cubicles with potential negative pressure isolation facilities for children with infectious conditions such as chicken pox and pulmonary tuberculosis. Plans for a new inpatient wing of the hospital are almost complete. After this ID inpatients will be collocated with rheumatology and dermatology. There are close working relationships between the Immunology, Infectious Diseases and BMT clinical teams.
The Infectious Diseases Consultant team currently comprises of 3 WTE consultants. This will increase to 3.6 including this appointment. Our middle grade staff (3-4SpRs and 1 SHO in general paediatrics, 1-2 national GRID trainees in Immunology/ID and 2 trust fellows) provide the direct inpatient care to the patients at GOSH under immunology, ID and BMT but also for the consult service across the trust. There are also 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists within the ID team.
This post involves Monday-Thursday on call (non-resident) for Infectious Diseases patients when attending, and currently involves a 1:4 weekend on call (non-resident) rota. Attendance at the hospital on weekends is expected when on call. When on call 1 night will involve cross cover of microbiology on call.
