The Trust is seeking to convert an existing Fixed Term Consultant Plastic Surgeon into a substantive appointment, with a major interest in skin oncology, including sentinel node biopsy.

North Bristol NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts within the country with approximately 1050 beds and employing more than 9,500 staff and a revenue budget in excess of £540 million The Trust provides hospital and community healthcare to residents based within Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset of around 900,000 people.

In May 2014 the Trust relocated the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe offering state-of- the-art care in a beautiful and purpose built environment, designed with the patients privacy and dignity in mind.

In 2015/16 we carried out:
• 72,947 inpatient, day case episodes and outpatient procedures
• 84,690 people were treated in our Emergency Department
• 298,911 outpatient appointments
• 6,542 babies were born at Southmead, at home or in our Birth Centre at Cossham Hospital.

In keeping with the Major Trauma Centre accreditation of NBT at Southmead, a range of allied surgical and medical specialities work with the Plastic team. This post will be one of nineteen consultant posts in the Department of Plastics and Burns, dealing with a wide range of special interests including Breast reconstruction, Burns, Hand surgery, Lower limb
reconstructions, Sarcoma and skin malignancies. There is a dedicated Hand and Upper limb physiotherapy centre under the Plastic remit of services.

The post-holder will be working with a team of consultant Plastic surgeons, delivering Skin Cancer clinics and Plastics operating sessions. The Plastics department is closely integrated with the Dermatology service and together the two services form the basis of a successful Skin Cancer service. The Skin team also provide clinics and theatre sessions in conjunction
with our colleagues at UHB. 

The post-holder will participate in 1:13 oncall rota covering Adult Plastic Trauma at Southmead Hospital and Paediatric trauma based as Bristol Royal Hospital for Children based with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust
