Consultant in Haematology
Applications are invited for a 10PA full time replacement Consultant post in Haematology based at the Queen's Centre for Oncology and Haematology at Castle Hill Hospital.
The successful applicant will join the existing Consultants in providing services for Haematological Oncology, General and Laboratory Haematology to both the Hull Centre and the regional network.
You will join the 6 existing Consultant Haematologists who work as an integrated team, each having a specialist area of interest. Services are provided to the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites. The successful applicant will take part in a 1:7 on-call rota. The department is based in a £70 million 116 bedded Cancer Centre on the Trust’s Castle Hill Hospital site in Cottingham.
The Hull Haematology Department provides Level 3 Haematology Services for the area previously covered by the North East Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Alliance. The Centre hosts the Haematology multidisciplinary team meeting for the network. Hull is also a Haemophilia treatment centre with
around 40 severely affected patients. The department benefits from the facilities of the new Centre.
These include a high intensity level 3 ward with 5 HEPA filtered rooms to support autologous transplantation. There is a large outpatient unit and day therapy centre, behavioural oncology team, on site laboratory and comprehensive oncology services including radiotherapy.
In addition to the Consultant staff there are 3 Specialty Registrars, 4 Specialty Doctors, an ST2 doctor and FY1 post. There are 4 Specialist Nurses supporting patients with malignant disorders and 3 for the patients with bleeding disorders. There is a well established transfusion team with 3 Transfusion Practitioners. There is active participation in research supported by research nurses and a team of data managers and MDT staff. The department also benefits from close links with the academic oncology department in Hull and the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service in Leeds.
The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services for 2 hospital sites for a base population of around 650,000 with some specialist services aimed at an extended catchment area of 1.2 million people. The Trust now forms part of the Hull/York Medical
School with both the NHS Trusts and Universities of Hull and York. There is an annual intake of around 130 students.
