An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery to join our team.

The post-holder will share responsibility for the pre-operative assessment, preparation, surgical management and post operative care of cardiothoracic surgery patients i.e. attendance in outpatient clinics, MDTs, ward rounds, critical care areas, elective and emergency operating, as well as contributing to the out-of-hours rota.

Our team of Cardiothoracic Surgeons undertake the whole range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures including 1,300 open heart procedures together with some 1250 thoracic procedures each year. Interests within the department include off-pump surgery, total arterial revascularisation, minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, aortic valve repair, valve-sparing aortic root replacement, mitral valve repair and atrial ablation surgery. The thoracic team performs over 60% of its major lung resections by VATS, including ante-rior and uniportal approaches.

The unit undertakes heart transplantation and VAD implants as part of the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Unit. The Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery service is based here.

Together with the cardiology department the unit has participated in significant international clinical trials. There are strong links with the University of Glasgow and there is op-portunity for research and publication of scientific papers.

The department has a very strong teaching culture and achieved one of the highest standards in the GMC 2017 National Training Survey for both Core Surgical and NTN trainees.
