Locum Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist
Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Gastroenterology

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist or Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Gastroenterology based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.  The post is available from November 2017 for approximately 10 months and pending recruitment to a substantive Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist position in the future.  

Applications are also encouraged from established Consultants who may interested in undertaking this role on a secondment basis. The South Wales service covers approximately 500,000 children less than 16 years as well as an additional number of young adults up to the age of 18 years.  
Detailed plans are being made for the future direction and organisation of the service across the network (currently funded for 3.6 WTE Consultants).
The work programme will be annualised and will include an average of two to three outpatient clinics a week and approximately 40 endoscopy half-day lists per year (for applicants who are ap-propriately trained).  
Cover for acute or unscheduled problems and ward patients will be shared evenly with the other Consultant.  

Whilst there is no formal on-call commitment, there is a requirement to provide occasional out-of-hours advice to general paediatric colleagues by telephone as necessary.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services and has excellent links with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.  

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements. Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of inter-view. 

The successful candidate should preferably be JAG accredited in diagnostic paediatric endoscopy / colonoscopy and competent in independent practice although candidates with appropriate experience who are not trained in endoscopy will also be considered.
