Consultant in Clinical Oncology specialising in Lung, SABR and Skin Cancer
We are keen to appoint a dynamic consultant clinical oncologist to join our team of 54 consultant oncologists working in Oxford (22 of whom are University appointments). The new substantive 10PA post is available at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from January 2018.
The post is specialising in lung cancer, SABR, and skin cancer visiting Milton Keynes Foundation Trust two days per week. You will be a member of the SABR MDT, focusing on lung primary and secondary indications.
The oncology department in Oxford moved into a new £108M cancer centre in 2009 with six Varian linacs, four with CBCT. 4DCT, MRI and PET CT planning is routinely used. The department is one of only seven selected to deliver SABR for all NHSE CtE indications, along with SRS for brain metastases. Lung SABR has been delivered since 2012 and IMRT is routine for most radically treated patients in the department. Rapid Arc is installed on 3 linacs as well as ExacTrac for the stereotactic programme. Chemotherapy is prescribed using a pan cancer network e-prescribing system (Aria), which is used in Oxford and Milton Keynes.
The department works closely with the University Department of Oncology
including the CRUK/MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology, providing
excellent opportunities for collaborative radiotherapy research. In 2016, the
department was designated an NCRI Established Centre of Excellence in
Academic Radiation Oncology (currently only three in the UK).
The department is taking forward plans to develop satellite radiotherapy units in Swindon (building work commenced due to open in 2018/19) and Milton Keynes (business case in development).
Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact Dr Claire Blesing, Clinical Director of the Oncology and
Haematology Directorate, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, (Tel: Oxford (01865) 235207). Prof Tim Maughan (Clinical Director for OIRO) Tel: 01865 617415. Dr Moez Dungarwalla SDU Lead for Cancer, Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. (Tel: 01908 660033).
