The cardiac intensive care facility at Great Ormond Street is one of the largest in the United Kingdom. It is an approved centre for paediatric intensive care medicine with unrivalled opportunities for training and gaining work experience in this exciting field. There are nearly 900 patients admitted annually of which over 500 are bypass cases.

The nationally funded ECMO programme is run on CICU with approximately 50 runs annually. This includes neonatal and paediatric respiratory ECMO, cardiac ECMO and ventricular assist device as a bridge to transplant. Great Ormond Street Hospital currently has one of the largest paediatric heart/lung transplant programmes in the world. The cardiothoracic unit also has a national pulmonary hypertension programme, a large thoracic practice and the only dedicated tracheal service in the UK for children.

Where applicable, it is an essential requirement that applicants have completed and passed the IELTS examination at the time of submitting an application, to the required pass mark standard for GMC Registration.

Applicants must be registered with the General Medical Council.
