Applications are invited for two posts in Gastroenterology at  uckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (comprising Wycombe, Amersham and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals). The Trust is located in the South East of England with fast public transport links into London.

The applicants will be joining the Gastroenterology Department at an exciting time as it enters a period of rapid expansion of our services, with both a new gastroenterology ward and plans for an expanded state-of- the-art endoscopy unit. The department is working towards a 7 day working pattern to cover gastroenterology inpatients and therefore there is no general medical commitment.

The new consultants will join a team of six enthusiastic gastroenterologists and two associate specialists. The department has a reputation for being friendly and supportive with particularly good working relationships.

Candidates with an interest in endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease or
nutrition are particularly welcome, however there is capacity for a wide variety of specialist interests to be accommodated and developed.

There are currently two endoscopy units, both fully equipped with excellent Olympus equipment. They are both JAG accredited bowel cancer screening centres and capsule endoscopy services are available on both sites. We have 2 nurse endoscopists delivering the Flexiscope screening service
with another in training.

We are very lucky in having close working relationships with our 4 colorectal surgeons, 2 upper GI surgeons and our highly skilled interventional radiology colleagues. We also have a full and active Nutrition Support Team, and specialist nurse practitioners in IBD, Nutrition, PEG management and
Viral Hepatitis.

All acute inpatient gastroenterology is based at Stoke Mandeville and the consultants provide a “gastroenterologist of the week” service within office hours plus a Saturday endoscopy list and gastroenterology ward round, all of which will be on a 1 in 8 basis. A Sunday ward round is also planned once we have eventually expanded to nine consultants. The team also provides acute GI bleeding out-of- hours cover supported by endoscopy nurses. There is no commitment to general medicine on-call.
