Joint Clinical - Senior Lecturer and Consultant Anaesthetist
University of Otago and Southern District Health Board
An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Anaesthetist (General and Paediatrics) to take up a full-time joint Academic and Clinical position within the University of Otago and Dunedin Hospital.
For your academic duties you will be based in the Department of Surgical Sciences, Dunedin School of Medicine, and will be appointed to the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer. This means you will have academic qualifications and prior experience in teaching and research. You would be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and would have possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research.
On the clinical side, the Dunedin Hospital has 350 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 180,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand. You will participate in a 1:6 - 1:8 on-call roster and provide a full range of Anaesthesia services alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues. Currently underway is an interim re-build to our Intensive Care Department and planning is underway for a total rebuild to the hospital in the next 6-8 years, so there will be opportunities to contribute to these developments.
Your Skills and Experience
- Have the Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent qualification;
- A fellowship in Paediatrics is desirable but not essential;
- Must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
Outside of work, you’ll find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its affordable living, great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. The town centre is compact but has plenty of energy, which is to be expected with it being a student-town. This sustains some great activities such as theatre, live-music and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, with all of its great holiday spots and outdoor recreation opportunities is also easily accessible from Dunedin.
