Tests of Competence and Revalidation Assessment Panel Members
Help us maintain high medical standards
Tests of Competence and Revalidation
London and Manchester
The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.
The Tests of Competence and Revalidation Assessment Panel is a new entity that will oversee the development of both assessments. The Tests of Competence are tailored exams undertaken by individual doctors as a part of our fitness to practise proceedings. They include a clinical and a written component. The Revalidation Assessment is a written specialty focussed paper taken by a small number of doctors who do not have a Responsible Officer.
This role requires a commitment of at least six days a year, including a compulsory training day in London or Manchester. We offer a daily fee of £310 for panel days with reasonable expenses and the flexibility necessary for you to fulfil your other commitments. The role will also involve some home working and conference calls.
Applicants must demonstrate the experience, knowledge and skills at the level of senior doctor within their specialty. This is either as an independent practitioner such as a Consultant or qualified GP, or as a senior doctor in their specialty who meets all other eligibility criteria. Experience of working with doctors in difficulty is highly desirable. You must have successfully completed membership examinations at the relevant medical college and have current experience in your field. You should have recent experience and understanding of the creation of assessment items as well as blueprinting and standard setting.
We are looking for panel members from across the specialties. As well
as general panel members we intend to appoint lead panel members
in surgery, mental health and paediatrics.
As part of our commitment to diversity, we welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, but particularly welcome applications from female doctors, as female doctors are currently underrepresented in our associate pool.
