Salary competitive with Staff Grade / Specialty Doctor NHS Medical and Dental salary scale

Saint Francis Hospice is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor.

We are situated in beautiful countryside on the London-Essex border. We have 18 specialist palliative care beds and a busy community service which includes Day Therapy services, Outpatient Clinics, 24/7 community CNS telephone and visiting support and a Hospice at Home service.

The hospice provides hospice inpatient and community specialist palliative care to the population of Outer East London (Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering), near West Essex and Brentwood. Services have expanded over the last few years, with increasing emphasis on education, supporting people at an earlier stage in their illness and identifying /supporting the needs of people with complex problems related to advanced non-malignant conditions and multiple co-morbidities as well as advanced cancer.

There are strong supportive links between the Hospice and local hospitals, which include a cancer centre and a regional neurology centre. Our most local Hospital NHS Trust has Associated Teaching Hospital status.  The Hospice is a training centre for palliative medicine specialist registrars and GP trainees, and is a regional training centre for the Gold Standards Framework.

The post holder will join a medical team of 2 Consultants, a StR trainee in Palliative Medicine and 3 GP trainees. The post holder will provide middle grade support to the inpatient unit, with scope to move to or share a Community role, dependent on experience. The post will be ideal for anyone thinking of applying for a Specialist Palliative Medicine rotation or working towards CESR accreditation, also for GPs with some experience in palliative medicine who would like to consolidate/expand their knowledge and skills.

To be eligible for consideration candidates must have full GMC registration, have achieved broad based Core Medical Training or completed GP training, have a wish to develop their palliative care skills and show evidence of some palliative care experience. A higher medical degree (MRCP or MRCGP) is desirable. Applicants who wish to work less than full time will be considered. The post has no fixed on-call commitment but there may be an opportunity to do some on-call work.

The contract will be held by Saint Francis Hospice.

For informal enquiries, and arrangements to visit please contact Dr Corinna Midgley, Medical Director, on 01708 753319 (via her PA on extension 2204).
