- Full Time
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Otolaryngologist to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust (NCUH). This forward-thinking consultant will complete a supportive team covering North Cumbria. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which clinicians are at the forefront of management. The Directorate would welcome applications from existing and newly trained consultants equally.
NCUH aims to provide high quality hospital services to the people of the region. The trust provides a comprehensive range of general acute hospital services and provides medical services for a population of approximately 340,000 living in the region, plus a large number of annual visitors to the Lake District and surrounding areas.
The successful applicant will complement a team of existing surgeons working trust-wide at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. This post is based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, but each consultant carries out a weekly clinic in the west of the county, either at Workington Community Hospital or our new, state of the art West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven (opened in 2015). The job plan will be equitable with the existing consultant’s job plans.
This is a new post that will improve capacity, provide more outreach services and develop special interest clinics.
This is a General Otolaryngology post, although it would be expected that any successful applicant will be in a position to develop a specialist interest to complement those of the consultants in post.
The ENT department provides a general otolaryngology service to the patients of North Cumbria. The Head and Neck Unit is part of the Newcastle MDT. There are fortnightly Skin MDT meetings and Thyroid MDT meetings. There is a fully functional audiology department and close links with other specialties, in particular OMFS, Clinical Oncology, Ophthalmology, Chest Medicine and Radiology.
The department has a strong track record and a high reputation for training junior medical staff, both regionally as part of the Northern Deanery OR training scheme and locally with the GP and Foundation programs.
The post offers the opportunity to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, recently designated a World Heritage Area, including the Lake District National Park or, for those that enjoy the hustle and bustle of a thriving metropolis, the university City of Carlisle
Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for this post on a part-time basis. Visits can be arranged for candidates and their families in order to appreciate the quality of life our Hospitals and the surrounding area can offer.
Applicants must hold valid registration with the GMC, and possess a fellowship of a royal surgical college or equivalent and have possession of, or be within six months of gaining a relevant CCT and be eligible for inclusion on the specialist register of the GMC. NHS Consultant experience preferred.
