Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
You are warmly invited to join our team of vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists in the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Network, part of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Inpatient vascular services are provided from Cheltenham General Hospital, but the Network also covers vascular services at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Great Western Hospital, Swindon.
We are seeking to appoint a substantive consultant replacing a colleague who has left to work abroad.
Phase One of the vascular service development programme in 2014 saw the creation of the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Network (serving the populations of Gloucestershire, Swindon and North Wiltshire approximately 900,000) with a 24/7 on call emergency rota together with a consultant-led 7 day working service. This built upon a strong Vascular Unit with exemplary outcomes, excellent collaborative links with Radiology and first class vascular laboratories. In Phase Two we aim to enhance the provision of network services and drive forward the service in several key areas. By joining us you will contribute to a 1:7 on-call rota covering the Network and you will be able to provide elective services both at the ’hub‘ in Cheltenham and at ’spoke‘ hospitals.
We wish to recruit a surgeon who will deliver a full range of vascular surgery, including endovascular interventions. You will have access to our state-of-the-art hybrid endovascular operating theatre and will be expected to drive forward the vascular and endovascular service through service developments. In particular we are looking for a surgeon to lead a collaboration with colleagues in diabetes to update the pathway managing patients in the Network with diabetic foot problems.
Surgeons with an academic or research interest are also encouraged to apply, and time may be built into a job plan to accommodate these interests, where appropriate. Our unit has a strong collaborative link with the Clinical Trial Unit (CTSU), Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford, building on a strong research background. Successful applicants can therefore benefit from the existing partnership between our unit and that in Oxford, as well as links with Bristol and Birmingham.
You will find that Gloucestershire is a highly desirable place to live and work. With its close proximity to the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean, the county hosts excellent cultural and recreational facilities, including the Cheltenham Literature and Jazz festivals and Gold Cup horse racing. The surrounding area both within and bordering the Cotswolds boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in England. Schools in the county, both state and private, are of a very high standard and include a number which are rated excellent.
Whole-time, part-time or job share applicants are welcome to apply. Relocation expenses, flexible working arrangements and support with childcare are available.
