The Belfast HSC Trust encompasses the major teaching hospitals associated with the Queen’s University of Belfast and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient facilities including most regional services for Northern Ireland. It is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK with 20,000 staff and £1 billion annual budget.

The Belfast City Hospital Regional Nephrology Unit provides the full range of
services for patients with renal disease and is the Transplant Centre for
Northern Ireland performing over 100 kidney transplants each year.
Approximately 800 renal replacement therapy patients attend for review and
over 10,000 outpatient consultations occur annually.

BHSCT wishes to appoint a full-time locum Consultant Nephrologist with an
interest in vascular access. This is a new post and the appointee will work
alongside an existing Consultant Nephrologist with an interest in vascular
access to develop a regional vascular access service for Northern Ireland. It is planned to convert this locum post to a substantive consultant post within the next 12-18 months.

There are currently 8 full-time Consultant Nephrologists and one Nephrologist with Joint Appointment with Queen’s University Belfast. The appointee will, if appropriate, participate in all aspects of the Nephrology Service based at the BHSCT.

good schools, accessible sporting facilities and a vibrant shopping, social and cultural scene.

The successful applicant will have full GMC registration with a Licence to
Practice, MRCP(UK) or equivalent and should be on the GMC’s Specialist
Register in Renal Medicine or have, or be within 6 months of achieving CCT in Renal Medicine or CESR or European Community Rights. You will be expected to provide the full range of nephrology services and participate in an on-call rota on a 1 in 12 basis.
