Applications are invited for 2 posts in Intensive Care Medicine at one of Europe’s leading hospital sites in the new state-of- the-art Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital, Bristol.
North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South-West Region and hosts the busiest Intensive Care Unit in the Region. It provides a range of local and regional centres of excellence based on one hospital site. It provides medical, surgical, maternity and neonatal care for a population of almost a million people in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire and North Somerset area. It is also the Major Trauma Centre for the Severn Region, the Centre for the Regional Vascular Network, the Bristol Breast Care Centre and The Regional Centre for Neurosciences, Plastics and Burns, Renal and Transplant, Orthopaedics, Urology and Severn Pathology.
The posts will be based in the purpose built 46 bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the postholder will have a regular dedicated ICU week and on-call responsibility to the ICU only. The successful applicants will join a team of 21 ICU Consultants, and more than 30 ICU trainees. The Unit has more than 300 staff and admitted more than 2000 patients in 2016 of which 70% were emergency admissions. The casemix is varied but includes a high proportion of neuro/trauma patients.
This is a hugely exciting time for the Unit, with opportunities available for the
successful candidate to pursue subspecialty interests in education, clinical research, echocardiography, neurocritical care, simulation, outreach, and major trauma. At present two ICU rooms are dedicated Simulation rooms.
