We are looking for a full-time (10 PA) non-resident Consultant Paediatrician at Queen’s Hospital Burton upon Trent. An interest complimentary to the needs of the department would be useful (not compulsory). A willingness to develop an appropriate subspecialty interest would also be welcome. The department comprises of 7 Consultants (with this appointment) & 6 speciality doctors. Present Training Grade Compliment is 12 (2 Paed ST4-8, 6 GP ST, 2 Paed ST 1-3 and 2 FY1).

The appointee will participate in agreed arrangements for out of hours cover, which includes general paediatrics, neonates and child protection (excluding sexual abuse).

The department also provides outpatient services at Lichfield and Tamworth Hospitals as well as at a GP practice at Swadlincote.

The applicants will be encouraged to undertake research, quality improvement projects and be encouraged to take part in our weekly teaching programme. The applicants will be expected and encouraged to take on management/leadership roles within the department.

In October 2015 the CQC gave Paediatrics at Queens Hospital Burton an overall rating of ‘Good’ across all domains.

The Trust is moving towards a closer collaborative partnership with the Royal Derby hospitals so we anticipate there will be a number of opportunities in the future to develop some exciting inter-departmental ways of delivering services.

  • Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.
