Consultant Clinical Toxicologist
This post is based at City Hospital, Birmingham. The appointee will act as Consultant Clinical Toxicologist to the National Poisons Information Service (Birmingham Unit) and will also be responsible for the care of patients on the West Midlands Poisons Unit.
Applicants must possess recognised training and broad experience in Clinical Toxicology and full registration with the GMC. Applicants must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register via a CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) in Clinical Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics or General (Internal) Medicine; CESR or European Community Rights.
The National Poisons Information Service provides advice to health professionals on all aspects of clinical toxicology, via a computerised database (TOXBASE®), by telephone and in correspondence. The West Midlands Poisons Unit admits some 1300 patients annually either directly from the Accident and Emergency Department or from other hospitals. Patients withdrawing from alcohol and other substances of abuse are also admitted regularly and planned alcohol detoxification takes place each week.
