Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint two
consultants in Geriatric Medicine with an interest in acute frailty, ambulatory
pathways and supporting Urgent Care.

The post holder will be in charge of a ward managing acutely unwell patients with the support of a true multidisciplinary team. You will work with the MDT to proactively manage patients and reduce the harms of in-hospital stays.

The postholder will also be working on one of our ambulatory units where the
focus is on supporting older adults through their illness in their own homes.
These units take referrals from GPs or ‘pull’ appropriate patients from the
Emergency Department to undergo assessment and treatment on a day case basis. The ability to understand, develop and promote optimal care pathways for frail older patients on an ambulatory basis is a key requirement.

This is an exciting time within Geratology and Acute General Medicine as
services are reconfigured to promote a future hospital environment providing
compassionate, excellent care to our population. Participation in the service
redesign and evaluation of this is expected.

We are seeking enthusiastic colleagues who are skilled in acute care and can interface with the Emergency Department and work within both acute and community services to develop integrated care for older people. We can support applicants with special interests including stroke thrombolysis.

The Trust has recently been awarded £10 million from NHS Digital as one of 12 Trusts on a fast track to becoming paperless. This Directorate has been at the forefront of this change having led the e-prescribing rollout. New colleagues are expected to support this ongoing work; training will be provided.

The appointment is on a full-time basis. Applications are welcome from those
who wish to job share or from those looking to combine clinical work with a
research career or educational interest.

Oxford is a beautiful historic city with much to offer. We have excellent schools and fabulous communities. With access to London there is something for everyone.
