Consultant in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine with special interest in Perioperative Medicine

Applications are invited for a consultant post in Geratology and Acute General Medicine (AGM) with a special interest in Perioperative medicine.

This post is key in the further development of our surgical liaison and
perioperative medicine services. We already have embedded geriatricians/physicians on the trauma unit and the acute surgical emergency
unit. The trauma and acute surgical emergency units are also supported by
specialist trainees in Geriatric Medicine. We are looking to strengthen our input into these areas as well as expanding into other surgical disciplines (such as neurosurgery and vascular surgery).

The successful candidate will be expected to help direct complex decision
making around acute illness with respect to urgent surgery, post-operative
management and rehabilitation. They will be supported by the existing
consultants working in these areas. Enthusiasm for acute and internal medicine is a key requirement together with skills in management of frail older patients on surgical wards.

The Trust has recently been awarded £10 million from NHS Digital as one of 12 Trusts on a fast track to becoming paperless. This Directorate has been at the forefront of this change having led the e-prescribing rollout. New colleagues are expected to support this ongoing work; training will be provided.

The appointment is based on a full-time 10PA job-plan. Applications are welcome from those who wish to job share or combine clinical work with research.
