Consultant Cardiologist – Whangarei Hospital

An exciting opportunity for an energetic, enthusiastic Cardiologist with subspecialty interest in either pacing or imaging is currently available at Northland DHB. The position is part of a significant service redevelopment involving a re-invigorated cardiology service with the expected development of a future cardiac catheter lab.
The position is 1 FTE within Cardiology and Acute Medicine; the allocation of time across those specialties can be negotiated depending upon the applicant’s experience. This would involve management of outpatients and Acute Cardiology.
Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region supported by three growing district hospitals. There are approximately 4,500 general medical admissions per annum with interesting, challenging and fascinating pathology.
The Department of Medicine has ten Physician positions sharing leadership of 5 teams consisting of 10 Medical Registrars and five House Officers. The department has a coronary care unit with 5 beds, two medical wards with 52 beds and a spacious outpatient facility. Transoesophageal imaging, exercise and pharmacologic stress testing and CTCA are all established services.
All applicants MUST be eligible to register in New Zealand as a Medical Practitioner, and gain either locum tenens and /or vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
