Consultant in Dermatology
North Bristol NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts within the country with approximately 1,050 beds and employing more than 9,000 staff. The Trust provides hospital and community healthcare to residents based within Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset of around 900,000 people.
North Bristol NHS Trust is inviting applicants for the post of Consultant Dermatologist. The role is full time 10PAs but part-time working will be considered. NBT provides a dermatology service in the new Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital and also in several community settings and service provides approximately 4,000 new patients appointments and 5,000 follow ups appointments per year. The Dermatology Department is within the Surgical Directorate and managed together with Plastic Surgery to improve skin cancer patients’ pathways.
NBT employs a full time consultant and an Associate Specialist and several University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) consultants provide regular weekly clinics and surgical lists in the Brunel building and community. There is a dedicated area of outpatients in the new Brunel building at Southmead Hospital that houses both Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, 2 x Minor op theatres, procedure rooms and Mohs laboratory. NBT hosts the Mohs micrographic surgery service for Bristol.
There are close links with the Dermatology Centre at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), part of University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), and patients requiring complex biological treatments, patch testing and phototherapy are referred for treatment at the Dermatology Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. There are links with community specialist nurses for management of inflammatory skin disease.
To maintain close links between Dermatologists across the city, some time will be allocated to attend dermatology consultant meetings held at UHB, along with participating in supporting programmed activities. Time will also be allocated for the weekly regional combined clinic which is held at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Applicants wishing to work less than full time or to job share are encouraged to apply. Applicants are required to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register before a Consultant appointment may be taken up. Candidates in the Specialist Registrar grade must therefore either already hold CCT or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential.
The post is currently based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
