Come and join our super friendly, rapidly expanding team at Oxford University Hospital Emergency Departments. An exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine is now available.

This post has substantive backing with continued investment into an expanding department delivering excellent care to the people of Oxfordshire.

We offer MTC/ Local ED working within a single Trust, have a number of substantive Consultants with subspecialty expertise (ITU, Geratology, PEM and Prehospital Care) and have a close working relationship with a World Class University offering unparalleled research opportunities. We have a strong relationship with the Trust Board through a Directorate/ Divisional structure that supports Urgent Care.

We work an annualised rota offering greater working flexibility and offer a competitive DCC/SPA split. ‘Enhanced compensation’ is also available for unsocial working. On call commitments are currently 1:12 with a weekend frequency of approximately 1:5.

We have both city and countryside within a mile of the hospital with easy access to London, Cotswolds, Midlands and beyond.

The service provision is split between two sites. The John Radcliffe Hospital is a designated ‘Major Trauma Centre’ with the full range of secondary and tertiary specialties and annual ED attendances of over 90,000, serving a secondary care population of around 400,000. Overnight Trauma cover is delivered by ED/ Trauma ST4 and above, with Consultant on-call cover. There is a resident Stroke thrombolysis team with access to a full range of tertiary specialists.

The Horton Hospital is a designated ‘Local ED’, open 24-7, with annual attendances of almost 40,000, serving a population of around 200,000. There is close functional integration with the JRH, and very close working relationships with the range of downstream acute specialties on site including Acute Medicine, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics and Gynaecology.
The department prides itself on being a close knit, friendly and pro-gressive department which is well resourced offering a high level of training to junior staff.

Appointments may be whole- or part-time or job share. Applicants with subspecialty expertise (e.g. Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Emergency Medicine, Toxicology, Medicine and Research) are encouraged to apply.

Informal enquiries and visits are encouraged. Contact Larry Fitton Clinical Lead in EM or James Ray, Deputy Clinical Lead in EM/ Horton Clinical Lead tel. 01865 221173.
