The post is designed for individuals who have a keen interest in clinical teaching and who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on education and training. There are opportunities for involvement in all aspects of medical and dental undergraduate education, including strategic planning and research. You will divide your time between teaching, curriculum management educational research and development.
You will join the Institute of Education for Medical and Dental Sciences as one of a vibrant team of academic, administrative and clerical staff who support the medical and dental degree programmes and the Masters in Physician Associate Studies and in Clinical Education. The post is based in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition on the Foresterhill campus, Aberdeen.
You will contribute to and support the design, development, delivery and assessment of undergraduate teaching generally and in your own area of expertise. You will contribute to teaching in areas such as communications skills and introductory clinical method and to the organisation of exams, including OSCEs. You shall attend and contribute to the work of the curriculum management groups and educational quality assurance.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the clinical teaching of medical and dental students (e.g. clinical communication, general examination, resuscitation) and will have the opportunity to contribute to the full range of curricular activities and educational development. The MBChB programme is undergoing a major review of Year 4 of the curriculum and in the first year the post holder will support the planning and project management of the review implementation.
Applications are invited from fully registered medical or dental practitioners, from any clinical discipline, who have a keen interest in clinical education. Experience or knowledge of teaching in an NHS setting is essential. Applications from other health professionals will also be considered for appointment at Lecturer (Scholarship) level.
Salary will be based on skills and relevant experience and the role will be adapted to fit the clinical skills/background of the successful applicant. Applications from GMC/GDC registered practitioners will be paid on the appropriate point on the Clinical Staff Salary Scale for Staff not holding Honorary Consultant contracts (£33,131 - £58-598 per annum.) with placement according to qualifications and experience. Applications from other applied health professionals for a Lecturer (Scholarship) post will be on Grade 7 (XXX to XXX) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 1-year probation period.
