Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital

Applications are invited for a Consultant Physician in Elderly Medicine with the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Subspecialty Interests in Acute Frailty, Orthogeriatrics, Parkinsons disease or Community Medicine would be welcomed. This is a replacement post but comes at a time of exciting new developments within the department. The post will be offered as a substantive post. The appointee will join a team of 9 substantive and 4 locum geriatricians at Hull Royal Infirmary. The post holder would be joining the rota covering elderly medicine working a 1:12 frequency on weekends and 1:8.8 on weekdays.

A successful candidate would join a dynamic team of geriatricians in a department that has recently undergone exciting reconfiguration and transformation. The department has 4 base wards and a short stay Elderly Assessment Unit for frailty which works closely with community and social partnerships by daily MDT meetings to offer comprehensive and timely assessments of the older patient with facilities to support patients into the community in timely fashion.

The team have expanded this approach closer to the front door with the recent introduction of the Frailty Interventional Team (FIT) in the Emergency Department aiming to provide rapid access to Comprehensive Geriatric assessment for Older patients with Frailty. The EAU and FIT work closely alongside the Acute Medical Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit and the newly designed Emergency Department. This is an exciting time for frailty within the trust and there are multiple opportunities for the post holder to be involved in further developments within their particular subspeciality area.

All sub-speciality interests (particularly Orthogeriatrics, Parkinsons Disease Community Medicine and Acute Frailty) would be considered for the post if the interests were in keeping with the overall strategic vision of the elderly care department. We are also keen to develop a departmental academic
strength so would consider candidates with an interest in pursuing a combined academic/clinical post.
