An excellent opportunity exists to join our dynamic and forward thinking stroke team as a Consultant Physician with an interest in Stroke and Medicine for the Elderly.

This position is based at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

This appointment is to expand the Department of Medicine for the Elderly by supporting and further developing Stroke services. We are proud of our achievements in our stroke units performance achieving level C-B and aiming for level A, which places us in the top 30% performing stroke units nationally.

The successful candidate will work alongside our team of Consultant Stroke Physicians, Stroke Nurses and dedicated multidisciplinary team, which includes close links with our Neurologists and Neuroradiologists.

We have a 27 bedded acute stroke unit which cares for both hyperacute patients and those with ongoing rehabilitation needs. We are able to
transfer selected patients to our regional neurosciences centre for thrombectomy. We also have a specialist neurorehabilitation unit on site (Donald Wilson House), and our multidisciplinary team facilitate transfer for appropriate patients who are then under the expert care of our Neurorehabilitation Consultant, Dr Lloyd Bradley.

The post-holder will contribute to all aspects of stroke care including hyper acute care, stroke rehabilitation, rapid access TIA and stroke follow up clinics. We are working towards provision of 7 day working including TIA clinics. As part of the agreed job plan the post holder will be expected to join the rota for stroke thrombolysis.

All newly appointed Consultants are mentored, via the “WSHFT Mentorship scheme for senior medical staff”.
