Secure Care and Offender Health, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, are looking for 2 ambitious and innovative Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists to join adult Secure Care services. 

BSMHFT is the largest provider of adult secure care for men and women in the West Midlands; providing 2 adult male medium secure hospitals; one adult female service co-located with FCAMHS and an established Forensic Outreach Service. BSMHFT recently became the lead Trust for the West Midlands New Care Model Pilot: Reach Out. Reach Out caters for all adult secure care patients in the West Midlands through a partnership between BSMHFT, South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and St Andrews Healthcare Birmingham. Reach Out went live in April 2017 with the strategic aim of improving the Secure Care pathway for all adults from the West Midlands. Core aims include reducing length of stay; reducing out of area placements; addressing health inequalities in secure care; developing alternatives to admission where appropriate; enhancing the community pathway and reinvesting savings and enhancing a sustainable secure care pathway for the future. 

There is an opportunity for successful candidates to play a strategic role in the development of Reach Out as it evolves and delivers. 

There have already been clear benefits to the secure care pathway in the West Midlands as a result of increased collaboration between the three partners and NHS England in Reach Out. 

There will be opportunities to consider areas of interest and preference in deciding on the final job plan which could including providing clinical skill and leadership to the Forensic Outreach and Service as it transforms into the enhanced Forensic Intensive Recovery and Support Team (FIRST); adult inpatient work and the potential for prison and other work at the criminal justice interface. One role will be more inpatient based.
