Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts.

We are currently looking to recruit a Renal Transplant surgeon with elective
general surgery to join our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

This is an exciting new post to join four consultant renal and general surgeons. The post is required to support the growing transplant programme and increasing renal access surgery workload. The new post will facilitate a move to a surgeon of the week model to provide continuity for acute patient care and the transplant service and is based at the Northern General Hospital.

The successful applicant will join the current surgeons (Mr Simon Boyes (General Surgery Clinical Director), Mr Ahmed Halawa, Mr Chidam Nathan and Mr Badri Shrestha) in delivering timely dialysis access surgery, transplantation and post transplant care with a shared elective general surgery responsibility.

Two experienced Specialty Grade Surgeons and a surgical Advanced Nurse
Practitioner support the post. Acute and long-term transplant care is shared
with the nephrology team.

Applicants should have a wide experience in Renal transplant, access surgery and General surgery and a commitment to effective multi-professional working. Experience in laparoscopic live donor surgery is desirable.

The Renal Directorate is responsible for providing renal care for patients from Sheffield and its surrounding areas (population 1.4million) and renal
transplantation for the whole of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw area (in
liaison with Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust). Currently around 75
transplants are performed each year with around one third live donor
transplants. Sheffield Teaching Hospital is a Major Trauma Centre and
regional centre of expertise in many areas including Cardiothoracic Services,
Neurosciences and Haemato-Oncology.
