Consultant Surgeon Post In Colorectal And General Surgery
Applications are invited for a Substantive Consultant Surgeon post in Colorectal and General Surgery at the West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust. This is a new post to join a department of 4 established Colorectal Consultants. West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust was formed by the amalgamation of Watford, St Albans & Hemel Hempstead Hospitals Trust on 1 April 2000, the surgical departments merging in 2007. The Trust provides health services for approximately 525,000 people who live in the five local authority areas of Dacorum, Hertsmere, St Albans, Three Rivers and Watford. Overall the population is relatively affluent, but there are pockets of health inequalities, particularly among people living in the South West of the county.
You will be expected to deliver general surgical services with a specialist interest in colorectal disease. The unit is already well advanced in minimally-invasive techniques with the vast majority of elective resections performed laparoscopically. There is a well established enhanced recovery team. Candidates must therefore be able to provide evidence of appropriate training and at least 50 independent Laparoscopic resections.
Experience in endoscopy is expected and JAG accreditation is required.
The job plan and description have been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The post will incorporate work at all three of the Trust’s sites. Emergency on-call commitment is 1 in 12.
Candidates who are unable for personal reasons to work full time are eligible to apply and, if successful, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
Application is via NHS Jobs and it is essential that you send a supporting CV. Visits will only be possible after short listing.
Applications without CV’s will not be considered
