Ipswich Hospital is one of the largest District General hospitals in the Eastern Region with 587 beds and the ability to open 100 extra beds during winter pressures. Ipswich Hospital pioneered red to green days to remove restrictions within the Trust to enable patients to spend fewer days in hospital whilst maintaining a safe clinical service.

We are seeking to appoint the following full time Consultant in our Pathology Services Department

Consultant Histopathologist

The proposed initial job plan provides a mixed working week. The appointee will play a full and equal part in the development of the service, report all aspects of histopathology with the scope to sub-specialise to some extent, to report non gynaecological cytology cases and teach Histopathology trainees.

The appointee will be invited to but not obliged to participate in coronial autopsy.

The laboratory is run by North East Essex and Suffolk Pathology services and is based at Ipswich. The laboratory is currently accredited.

The department is progressive and is looking to develop molecular services with other hospitals in the region.

The department is currently being transformed as a Hub laboratory for the region and will provide a diagnostic service for Colchester, West Suffolk and Ipswich hospitals and their surrounding GPs. This transformation project is being run by North East Essex and Suffolk Pathology services and aims to deliver the objectives set out for Pathology transformation in the Carter report.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT date at the time of interview.
