Inspire hope with your passion for geriatric care
As one of the UK’s busiest teaching hospitals, Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a fantastic place in which to build your career. Based in south east London, our staff offer their expertise and high standards of care to 1.5 million patients across five main sites every single year. And working in an environment where innovation is encouraged, our medical practitioners experience a level of appreciation from the community that is quite exceptional. Not only that, but with a work/life balance that is enhanced by affordable housing, high calibre schools and a desirable location equidistant between central London and the lovely Kent countryside, our staff enjoy a quality of lifestyle that is enviable.
We are now looking for two Consultant Geriatricians to join us at Orpington Hospital, supporting in-hospital and out-of-hospital services. Based at the heart of our pioneering integrated care unit, this is an exceptional opportunity to provide world-class facilities with a team of dedicated professionals. Working collaboratively to provide a seamless service, you will be driven by the concept of helping elderly people maintain as much independence as possible, avoiding admissions and offering rehabilitation and follow-on frailty support when they return to their homes, care homes or other community options. This will be achieved by working with other medical and social care departments, sharing knowledge and ensuring that no one slips through the net. A key part of this role will involve assisting with research and developing strategic pathways such as GP liaison systems to ensure the wellbeing of elderly people is at the heart of everything you do, so you can expect to be at the forefront of shaping this vital and exciting service.
To ensure this facility thrives, you will be a Consultant Geriatrician with a speciality interest in Interface Geriatric Medicine. Chair-based assessments will form a large part of your work, so your excellent interpersonal skills will be called into play when dealing with the frail, particularly those with chronically relapsing long-term conditions. You will also enjoy sharing your knowledge with other staff, teaching and training a variety of medical and non-medical professionals including medical students and post graduates. With your extensive knowledge extending from dementia to bone health, you will be a GMC registered specialist with MRPC (or equivalent) higher qualifications, and an interest in gaining further qualifications once in the post. With previous experience of providing geriatric medicine in a busy teaching hospital, you’ll be an essential part of our exciting work.
With a friends and family test score of 100% and a five-star rating on NHS Choices, Orpington Hospital is a vibrant and welcoming place in which to establish your expertise. So if you share our enthusiasm for this ground-breaking project, then we’d be delighted to hear from applicants with creative and progressive ideas.
