An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Medicine for the Elderly department
which is expanding at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust for two
Consultants. One is a replacement post due to retirement for a Medicine for
the Elderly and Stroke Physician whereas the other is a newly created post for a Medicine for the Elderly Physician with a special interest in Dementia.
The Consultant in Stroke Medicine will primarily be based at West Middlesex
University Hospital which has 84 Medicine for the Elderly and Stroke beds with a designated Stroke Unit on Kew Ward of 22 beds. Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust is a designated Acute Stroke Unit, a part of the West London Network. The successful candidate will receive full MDT support on the ward and there are exciting opportunities to develop and maintain TIA services as well as rapid front door assessment of elderly patients. There are strong teaching links with Imperial College London as well as opportunities for research as part of a proposed academic Medicine for the Elderly Unit at Chelsea & Westminster.
Mentorship is available and there will be Clinical Neurological support in the
form of a Consultant Neurologist which is to be appointed.
The Consultant with a special interest in Dementia will be based across both
our Chelsea and Westminster & West Middlesex sites. The successful candidate will have a strong interest both clinically and academically in the care and assessment of older patients with dementia. There will be an opportunity to work with our Neurology colleagues and develop strong research opportunities as well as being involved in academic collaboration.
The successful candidate will also become Chelsea & Westminster FT’s lead for dementia training and inpatient management as well as having their own inpatient bed base on a Medicine for the Elderly ward with the opportunity to develop and engage in front door geriatrics as well as setting up an academic Geriatric Unit in conjunction with Imperial College London.
