The Clinical Research Facility at the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust is one of the three sites that make up the One Manchester Clinical Research Facility. This was recently (2017) funded by the NIHR and represents a major investment in clinical research in Manchester and the North West.

The CRF carries out a wide variety of both commercially funded clinical trials and academic experimental studies. Our major focus is on Respiratory Medicine and Allergy, but we have recently broadened our portfolio to potentially include all phase II clinical trials across cardiovascular, intestinal disease and cancer prevention studies.

We require an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Trials Fellow to provide medical cover across the trial portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of diseases/allergy in a specialist centre and would be an excellent introduction for those considering specialist training in these fields.

The post would particularly suit those interested in a career involving research and is suitable for core trainees and those seeking time out of a training programme.

For candidates wishing to establish a career in clinical research we are happy to support and fund part time (2 year) completion of an MRes higher degree in a relevant subject (for instance in clinical pharmacology or clinical trials). This would be subject to satisfactory performance and by mutual agreement. There is no on-call requirement, though opportunities exist to contribute to the clinical on call rota, we are also happy to discuss flexible working arrangements.

The successful applicant will receive training and experience in both mechanistic studies and clinical trials of novel therapies. They will be supervised by leading academics and encouraged to develop research interests of their own. This post is not approved for credit towards training, but will allow the successful candidate to gain clinical research experience.

Candidates are encouraged to visit the NIHR Clinical Research Facility.
