General Practitioner - West Coast New Zealand
The West Coast of New Zealand's South Island offers GPs the chance to be a 'roll your sleeves up' kind of specialist. Someone who loves working and living in a community. Our employees are made up of passionate professionals who enjoy the case mix, and the lack of competition means that you're free to get ahead and do the job you're trained to do.
As an experienced GP, how often do you get the chance to finish work and do the following:
- Swim, surf or at least get your feet wet?
- Go for a hill walk in towering native forests or along the coastlines?
- Kayak on stunning clear lakes?
- Fishing on, or next to rivers, lakes or the ocean?
- Relax on the beach with a good book
Chances are, the answer to these questions is 'not often, if ever'. On the West Coast, these activities are a way of life.
After a day in which you get time to really get to know your patients, and you are well supported by rural nurses, you'll have the time and the energy to get out and enjoy the world around you, and down here, it's a world like none other.
Unlike larger countries such as Australia and Canada, being a country doctor in New Zealand doesn't mean being totally isolated. A 3 hour drive over the stunning mountains takes you to Christchurch, and it is a very short flight across the water to Wellington, the coolest little Capital in the world. It means that you can have the best of both worlds - quiet country living with the injection of thriving cities when you need it. Here, you will work with exceptional nurses, you'll enjoy our excellent care model, and you will work hours that mean you are able to fully benefit from our lifestyle which is unique and very hard to beat.
You will be prioritising patient care, conducting clinical sessions and participating in a light on-call roster, which is shared amongst the doctors within your practice. While we are most definitely a team, your confidence and skill as an independent, decisive decision maker will be vital in this position.
We're confident that you will enjoy the positive working environment that offers plenty of room for growth and development.
- From you, we will need the following:
- Ideally have (or be eligible for) Vocational Registration as a General Practitioner in New Zealand
- Experience as a General Practitioner or In Family Medicine/Primary Care
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- A high standard of clinical care, management and time management skills
- The ability to read situations quickly and make good decisions.
If you are a GP who is considering a change for the good of your family and your career, we can offer you a variety of unique opportunities in various locations. Finally, we invite you to come and have a look at what makes the West Coast such a special place to be.
This is our back yard, make it yours.
