Northampton General Hospital

This is an exciting time for Northampton General Hospital as we are investing in and expanding cardiology. Northampton General Hospital serves a large catchment population of 380,000 with general cardiology, including PCI, complex devices, nuclear cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology including specialist EP clinics, specialist congenital heart disease services
in adults, and cardiothoracic surgery clinics.

The post holder will help shape the development of deeper cardiology services and the focus of this post is interventional cardiology services in addition to general cardiology. Sessions in the primary PCI centre at Kettering may be available.

There is a dedicated cardiology ward with 4 cardiology SpRs and a junior medical team.

There is a team approach and the post holder should be flexible and have skills for the management of cardiology patients from admission through to discharge.

Most work will be coronary including standard PCI, CTO intervention, rotablation, and the diagnostic tools of OCT, IVUS, FFR all of which are done at NGH.

Additional interventional skill, if present, can be accommodated including pacing. We are a large pacing centre, and are only the second non-surgical centre in Europe for implanting leadless pacemakers (Micra).

Cardiology sits within the division of Medicine & Emergency care, which has 3 clinical directorates. There are opportunities for candidates with clinical management experience to take a leadership role within this new structure to provide Best Possible Care at Northampton General Hospital Possession of MRCP or equivalent qualification is essential and applicants must be holders
of a CCT in cardiology, with appropriate subspecialist accreditation as necessary, or be within 6 months of obtaining a cardiology CCT.

Further information can be obtained from Dr Patrick Davey, Lead Consultant Cardiologist 01604 544502 or Dr. David Sharman, Cardiology Consultant 01604 544565. Candidates are encouraged to visit the department.
