Do you have an interest in developing your clinical and case management skills to improve the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease?

There is an exciting opportunity for a new team member to join our Trust at a time when the department is changing practice throughout the hospital. We are looking to develop new areas of working so candidates with special interests will be accommodated and supported as much as possible. We are looking for a candidate who will work closely with the existing team of 7 Consultants to design pathways to improve care within our acute setting. We believe that this is essential for us to provide a first class service where the patient and their relatives come first.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work within one of the largest, well established movement disorder services within the Midlands. The department reviews on average 430 movement disorder patients per annum through a multidisciplinary clinic incorporating a Consultant, Parkinson Nurse Specialist, trainee doctor, therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and dietetics all within this clinical setting. This enables the patients to have a holistic pathway of treatment.

The Trust prides itself on its multidisciplinary approach (which includes social care)from front door to discharge and on to support in the community. We are also exploring opportunities within the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP)

The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust encompasses Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Solihull Community Services and serves one of the largest populations of any NHS Trust.

The existing Elderly Care Consultants pride themselves on providing high quality clinical presence, together with high standards of education, training, research and audit. The Elderly Care directorate work innovatively to enhance patient care and develop the services already provided, in collaboration with specialty and community teams. Team members are actively engaged in research, delivery of training and development of high quality educational programmes. The new post holder will be expected to work within the Consultant group to provide high quality clinical care, as well as contributing to the development of Frailty and Elderly Medicine as a specialty.

Our Consultant team has a culture of mutual respect and colleague support. This extends to all new team members who we welcome not only as colleagues, but also as friends. The departments are all within easy reach of motorway and train networks, and Birmingham International airport, giving opportunities for city or rural living.

The post is to join our current established workforce of 7 Consultants at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, however the post holder is expected to work across the sites for service provision and cross cover when need arises.

The post holder will work 10 programmed activities for Heart of England Foundation Trust. This will include delivery of elderly care and general medical services. The post includes on call for own speciality and general medicine. If the candidate wishes, oncall for stroke thrombolysis could be organised if they are suitably qualified.
