Division of Surgery and Anaesthetic Services – Cancer Directorate 

You will work with a team of clinical and medical oncologists from both the Cancer Centre (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Rosemere Cancer Centre) and our own East Lancashire Consultant Medical Oncologists. 

You will be required to work at both our hospital sites – the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital joining our oncology team which includes a total of over 30 clinics per week and two chemotherapy departments (20 sessions per week in total). 

This post offers an opportunity to have a lead role for developing the lung and colorectal oncology services with ample opportunity to input into the wider development of the oncology directorate at our Trust.

East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust provides a range of healthcare services primarily for the people of East Lancashire, which comprises of the Boroughs of Blackburn, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale. Our Trust aims to provide appropriate, high-quality personal and organisational development interventions, which will improve patient care. The Trust is one of the busiest in the UK providing services to a population of 520,000 people. 

We provide a comprehensive range of secondary care facilities and are also a tertiary referral and treatment centre for hepatobiliary, head and neck and urological cancers. There is a full team of chemotherapy staff and three senior acute oncology nurses (7-day nursing service) in addition to a fully established team of MDT Coordinators, medical secretaries, cancer nurse specialists, clinical psychology service (for cancer patients) and two full-time cancer service improvement facilitators. The service covers all major tumour groups. The Cancer Directorate is part of the Surgical and Anaesthetics Division. There is a cancer lead clinician, (Clinical Director), business manager for cancer services and a Macmillan lead cancer nurse heading up the Directorate.
