Consultant Anaesthetist with an Interest in Pain Management
Applicants are invited for the post of Consultant in Anaesthetics, with a specialist interest in Pain Management to join the Anaesthetics Department at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, part of North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT).

This role will have a sub-specialist interest in pain management, joining a team of 5 consultants.
We see 2400 patients a year in outpatient pain clinics and the service is recognised for advanced pain training. Last year over 60 stimulation devices were inserted.
We have strong links with our orthopaedic and neurosurgical colleagues and the
neuromodulation service is run jointly by pain and neurosurgery. There are pain MDT meetings and there is a plan to include neurosciences, orthopaedics and triage services in this.
The post holder will also work in the Anaesthetic Department, including on-call, at Southmead Hospital, which consists of around 80 Consultant Anaesthetists and Intensivists, 20 junior and 15 senior trainees, as well as 10 Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists.
Our theatre complex is located over 2 levels with 25 operating theatres and 4 interventional radiology suites.
We provide anaesthesia for all the NBT surgical specialties, staff a 42 bedded ICU and support a busy ED and our Major Trauma Service.
Through annual job planning the post holder will have the opportunity to become involved in other areas of expertise in services provided at NBT.

Applicants should hold CCT (or equivalent) or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.
The appointee will be required to reside no more than 30 minutes travelling time (by road) from the Southmead Hospital site for on-call purposes. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
