North Manchester General Hospital

Fixed Term

The Anaesthetic and Surgical Division at Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist, initially for a six months tenure. This post is a replacement post for colleagues.

North Manchester is a busy DGH on the North East Sector of the Manchester Conurbation and is part of the Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust encompassing the four (NMGH, Bury, Oldham and Rochdale) hospital sites.

Surgery currently includes Orthopaedics and Trauma, ENT, Major Maxillofacial Cancer Surgery, General Surgery, Urology, Day Case Gynaecology and Day Case Paediatric Surgery. There is a busy Obstetric Unit with over 5,000 deliveries p.a.

The site is supported by Critical Care, A&E and Acute Adult Medicine and DGH Paediatric Medicine. The A&E department has over 120,000 attendances p.a. including a significant number of children.

The department at NMGH has a strong reputation for teaching and has CT and ST trainees for Anaesthesia, ACCS and ICU. Opportunities to be involved in the Simulation suite will also be available. The department also runs a difficult airway course.

The post offers a 10 PAs contract primarily to cover theatre work during the week dependent on the requirements of the service at NMGH. There may be an expectation to occasionally work at other sites within the Pennine Hospitals.

Dependent upon suitable candidates experience and service requirements there will be additional opportunities to participate with the consultant on call rota and weekend orthopaedic trauma lists.

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic candidates who can demonstrate

  • Candidates must be on the specialist registrar for anaesthesia or have a reasonable expectation of achieving this within six months
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver obstetric anaesthesia
  • Current APLS and ALS certificates
