If so, come and work in our fantastic Emergency Department with a purpose built, audio-visually separate Paediatric Emergency Medicine Area which underwent complete refurbishment in June 2009.
This is a replacement post and we are seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to join our team of Emergency Medicine Consultants and one full time Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant at North Manchester General Hospital. The principal commitment of the new appointment will be Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
We have made significant developments in our Paediatric Emergency Medicine Service over the last three years; as well as contributing to the creation of region-wide guidelines we have developed new services including ketamine sedation and we have a strong focus on education and development within the department. The successful candidate will contribute to the enhancement of Paediatric Emergency Care throughout the organisation and will offer clinical expertise, leadership and education to other staff within the Trust to help develop gold standard Paediatric Emergency Medicine care on all sites of the Trust.
The Emergency Department was completely refurbished in June 2009 and, together with an adult major’s area, includes brand new facilities for Minor Injuries, Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Resuscitation. Our friendly department sees 104,000 new attendances per annum of which 33,000 are children.
North Manchester General Hospital is one of the two acute surgical hospitals for the Trust and we hold internal ALS, ATLS and APLS courses within the Trust and have a comprehensive educational programme in the Emergency Department and the hospital.
North Manchester General Hospital is ideally placed in the city with excellent transport links from Manchester International Airport as well as the local tram and rail service. Manchester is a vibrant city with a whole host of social activities on its doorstep as well as the Peak District and Lake District within easy reach. The local area has excellent schools and housing available.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust employs over 9,000 multidisciplinary staff in five hospital sites, making it one of the largest Trusts in the country.
You will need to be on the Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine with sub-specialty certification in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics with sub-specialty certification in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, or you will need to be within six months of obtaining your CCT (or equivalent) at the date of interview.
This is a whole time equivalent post and we welcome applications from candidates who wish to work full time or part time. We welcome all requests for an informal visit. Come and have a look at our facilities and talk to staff in our department.
