Consultant Oncoloplastic Breast Surgeon

Applications are invited for the post of Oncoplastic Consultant Breast Surgeon arisen due to the retirement of one of our consultant colleagues. This is an opportunity to join a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary team to help us improve the service that we provide to our population. You will be the fifth of a team of five Oncoplastic Breast Consultants, two specialty doctors and two Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Our outpatient clinics are supported by a team of specialist breast care nurses who are proactive in developing the Living with and Beyond Cancer programme and our new supported self-management programme.
The Pennine Breast Unit is a large symptomatic unit covering a population of around 820,000. The unit treats more than 400 patients with Breast Cancer annually. We offer a full range of Breast Cancer services, including Oncoplastic Resections and Breast Reconstruction, with a very high Primary Breast Reconstruction rate. The unit is also the commissioned centre for Gender re-assignment surgery for the NHS Scotland as well as a referral centre for other regions in UK.
The duties of the post include:
- 1) Provision of high quality Surgical/Oncological Management to patients with breast
- cancer and benign breast disease
- 2) Attendance at weekly multidisciplinary meetings
- 3) Supervision and management of junior medical staff
- 4) Involvement in research and audit activity
- 5) An interest or experience in gender reassignment
- 6) Contribution to teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level
- 7) Cover for authorised absence of colleagues

Potential applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of achieving CCT (or equivalent) at the date of interview.
