Salary is competitive and commensurate with seniority of role.
Cardiff University is an ambitious and innovative university with a bold strategic vision, built on a foundation of excellent teaching and research across a broad set of disciplines. Based in a cosmopolitan thriving capital city, we have a footprint not only in Wales, but nationally and internationally. We were the fastest rising amongst the leading research universities of the Russell Group for our performance in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), climbing 17 places to fifth for quality and second for impact. With annual turnover exceeding £500 million, the University is undergoing a multi-million pound investment programme for which it has successfully raised a £300 million bond.
Within this dynamic context, we are now seeking to appoint an outstanding leader for our School of Medicine. The School is a constituent school of the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, one of the UK's largest and most comprehensive faculties of biology, medical and health sciences. The School is structured around four research Divisions (Population Medicine, Cancer and Genetics, Infection and Immunity, Psychological Medical and Clinical Neuroscience), together with a Centre for Medical Education, and a Clinical Innovation Hub.
Our aim is to feature consistently in the top ten medical schools in the UK, be at the forefront of world-leading medical research and provide an exceptional environment for producing outstanding clinicians and researchers for the future. Our student satisfaction rate at 97 per cent in the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS), places us joint third in the country.
The successful candidate for this role will have an outstanding academic record in a relevant discipline and possess exceptional leadership and management capabilities. A track record of successful strategic delivery and a demonstrable commitment to excellence in medical education and research are essential. Working collegially as a senior member of our large multidisciplinary College, you will have the personal authority, presence and expertise to represent the School effectively and to further its general interests among a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
