A great place to work, a great place to live

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust was founded in January 2012 coming together from Norfolk & Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Suffolk Mental Health Partnership.

West Suffolk mental health services serve a population of approximately 275,000 people.

An opportunity has arisen to appoint to appoint 2 Consultant General Adult Psychiatrists in the West of Suffolk, one based in the community in the West of Suffolk which is 8 sessions and one in the acute adult inpatient services which is 10 sessions.

Community:
The successful applicant will be working with a team of enthusiastic Community Psychiatry Consultants and MDT colleagues, in established Integrated Delivery Teams, based in Newmarket. These teams cover various pathways including Adult, Enhanced Community (which is generally working with those with either less severe or more stable forms of mental
illness/disorder), Later Life, Child and Family, Youth, and Neurodevelopmental. The post holder may be expected to work across pathways where the expertise of an Adult Psychiatrist is required.

Acute Inpatient:
Inpatient and Home Treatment facilities are based at Wedgwood House, West Suffolk Hospital. There are two acute adult wards comprising a 16 bedded Triage ward and a twenty one 21 bedded Treatment ward which is where the post is based. There are close working relationships between the two wards.

Reasons to work for the Trust:
The Trust encourages applications from highly motivated, enthusiastic doctors who would welcome the opportunity to work in a high quality service in a beautiful part of the world. The Trust encourages leadership roles for senior clinicians as part of the core job and in additional roles, where available, in medical education, management, research and teaching.
We have strong links with The University of Cambridge Medical Schools and regular medical student attachments.

West Suffolk is a predominantly rural area but with good rail and road links to London, and, via the coastal ports and Stansted airport, to Europe and further afield! Local economy is based on light industry and farming. Bury St Edmunds is the largest of the market towns in the west of Suffolk, forming the centre of a ring of attractive market towns.

Applicants for the post should have or be eligible for a CCT and eligible onto the Specialist Register within six months of the interview date. Full GMC registration, approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, eligibility for Approved Clinician status and appropriate adult psychiatry experience are required.

The Trust is working towards equal opportunities and welcomes applications irrespective of age, disability, ethnic origin, gender, sexuality or religious belief.

The Trust operates a no smoking policy.
