Applications are invited for 3 Consultants in Cardiology at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust as part of a major expansion of Cardiology services. You will be joining a team of 13 consultants and a dynamic, rapidly evolving department, reconfiguring to allow targeted sub-specialty work across the region. Applicants will have extensive General Cardiology experience with expertise in Coronary Intervention, Echocardiography, Heart Failure or Devices. Applicants who have other sub-speciality interests are welcome to make contact and discuss how they could help the department excel.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts in England. We provide regional circulation services for 1.8 million Kent residents. This includes a programme of primary PCI (PPCI), acute stroke intervention, vascular surgery and renal services. We provide a full range of acute services to our local population of around 800,000.
Major changes have been made to patient care pathways (including cardiology) and there is commitment to further substantial investment in a Cardiology service that already provides an excellent regional PPCI service (over 800 patients were accepted on the PPCI pathway last year) with lower than expected mortality and impressive results for the large number of out of hospital cardiac arrests and patients in shock that we treat [BCIS data]. For the local population we also provide pacing (complex and simple devices), invasive Electrophysiology, and all expected cardiac investigations including over 1200 Cardiovascular CT studies per year, and a complete range of echocardiographic assessments (pharmacological and exercise stress, 3D, and TOE). We are the first NHS Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance imaging provider in Kent.
The Trust encourages and supports all consultants to be involved in education and research and enjoys strong links with our two local Universities (Christ Church and Kent), with joint and professorial appointments at these institutions. Both these Universities have submitted an exciting joint bid for the development of a Kent & Medway Medical School, which would see the development of the school beginning by 2019. A significant number of joint positions with the medical school, for lecturers and clinical teaching are expected in the future if this is realised. The cardiology department is currently active in enrolling patients in international trials of coronary intervention and heart failure, with future expansion planned.
Please review the individual job descriptions for more details.
All advertised posts are new, full-time, substantive appointments (at standard 10 PA) in Cardiology and will offer 8 direct clinical (DCC) sessions and 2 supporting professional activities (SPA) in addition to on call PA equivalent, and future PA for further SPA development.
Applicants must have full GMC Registration and must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of their CCT from the date of the interview.
