Applications are invited for a new post in one of the largest children’s Cardiac units in the UK.

The applicant will join the existing consultants to make a team of 9 Consultant Paediatric Cardiologists and 4 Cardiac Surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The post is designed to supplement the existing clinical workload of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital which provides tertiary Cardiology services for the West Midlands as well as supra-regional care for specialist areas in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, and will include regular outreach clinics.

The department sees 13,000 outpatients, performs over 10,500 Echocardiograms, 600 Cardiac Catheters and 450 Open Heart Surgery cases per year. The post is to support paediatric cardiology services in the region and will involve supporting and developing fetal cardiology and non-invasive cardiology. The successful applicant will not be expected to provide invasive cover for the department.

This is a 10 Programmed Activities job plan, although additional Programmed Activities may be offered on appointment. On-call will be on 1:10 rota with additional 2nd on-call cover from the interventional cardiology team. Applicants must be trained in Paediatric Cardiology and must be on the Specialist Register or within the eligibility criteria for the same.

Academic experience is desirable and the candidate will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department. Informal enquiries are welcome.
