Our Service: We have big plans for our acute services in West Norfolk; the proposals include building a new £4m inpatient unit, expanding of our services to provide our adult inpatient and outpatient mental health services from one, central King’s Lynn site.
Inpatient facilities are currently based in the Fermoy Unit, on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site and will be transferred to the new unit at Chatterton House, in Goodwin’s Road, which will undergo a £4m refurbishment programme.
The new unit will offer state-of-the-art, en-suite single room facilities for men and women with a variety of mental health conditions, such as depression and bipolar disorder. One of the beds would be reserved for patients discharged from the general hospital who are awaiting onward referral for a mental health condition.

The successful applicant would be joining a loyal and enthusiastic team who are welcoming and supportive.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the ward team and will be involved in the assessment and management of adults who are experiencing a crisis in their mental health.
Patients may be subject to detention under the Mental Health Act (MHA), and as such, there is a requirement for the Consultant Psychiatrist to have Approved Clinician status, to undertake MHA-related work (preparation of reports and attendance at MHA-related hearings).
The post holder is supported by a Specialty Doctor, plus two junior doctors in training, alongside by other members of the ward multi-disciplinary team, including pharmacy, nursing, occupational therapy, clinical support and psychology professionals.
There is a local teaching programme for all psychiatry doctors and a regular inter-departmental teaching programme. In addition research is strongly encouraged within the department and there is a well-established research network within the trust.
